Hi I’m Scarlet and I’m so excited to come back on Wednesday.I have a few questions for you!

  3. What are you studying?
  4. How long have you been at university?
  5. Who was your inspiration?
  6. What is your favourite part of Uni?
  7. Do you live at University and if you do who is your housemate?

Thanks See You On Wednesday.

U of M : 2017-02-24

This Friday, some individuals from Reading University(we call it monsters of university) are going to inform my class on what we are expected to be doing next Wednesday(1st of March).
I am clearly excited otherwise I would not even have done this. I have done most of my diary work the university had given; hopefully it is up to date because I was so anxious that I could not wait another day so I wanted to do more of the entertainment inside the book.
Unfortunately, my room was disorganised so I tried my best to make it spotless and then I loved how it looked; I knew where my University Diary was but then I put it somewhere I just can not be certain where it is.

I am going to have a look for the diary because my room is pure so it should be undemanding(I’m fortunate I cleaned my room otherwise who knows how long I take) to find. I can not wait for what we are going to do.

We need your help! : 2016-05-20

Hello Year 6,

How are you? We have just got a logo designed for the University of Monsters but the Monsters and staff here at RUSU are stuck as which colour to use! This logo will go on posters, workbooks, banners, certificates and anything we use as part of the project.

We thought as we couldn’t decide between the two colours…we would ask you to decide for us!

Perhaps Mr Lyford can put it to a vote?

Let us know your decision and that is what the logo will be.

Good Luck Year 6 : 2016-05-09

Hello Year 6,

A little monster told us that this week is SATs week! Good luck!

We know you will do great and remember all you can do is your best!

The monsters at University are in exams too and we have lots of relaxing activities going on like yoga, colouring and a petting farm. We’ve been making sure the monsters get plenty to eat and drink too with a smoothie bike – you can make a smoothie by cycling and water stalls. It is important to take a break!

Hope it goes well this week!

Love the Monsters

Recount of University of Monsters : 2016-03-06

Yesterday, Y6 went to Reading University. This time, we got to choose our lectures. My favourite was Computing and Engineering. We first talked about what makes a robot and how they work. They had a built model of R2D2 with voice recognition so if you said, Hey R2, do you remember Darth Vader? and he went all crazy. We got to invent what robots we would like to see in the future. My idea was like Baymax but can also help people with disabilities. I’m looking forward to the next exiting trip!

Our trip to Reading University : 2016-03-06

On Wednesday 2nd March we went on a trip to Reading University. First we walked to town and got the bus to the university but unfortunately it wasn’t the VIP bus that had games and special seating at the back. When we got there we out our things away and began our first activity which was to answer questions about university. Next we had to match a certain degree to a celebrity and guess what degree they did. After that we got to take part in a lecture that was being taught. I chose philosophy first which was about making creation that we didn’t know were actually art. It was really interesting and I learnt a lot of new things about art that I didn’t know before. After the lecture was finished we ate lunch. Then we did our second lecture, I chose law because I thought it would be fun making my own law and everyone sticking to the rules. In our lecture we got to make our own law and say why we thing that it is good enough and has suitable reasons for it to actually become a law. Then it was time to go. We got the same bus back and walked back to school. It was lots of fun and very interesting. I think I’ve made a decision of considering going there myself one day.

University of monsters trip 2 : 2016-03-06

On Wednesday we went to Reading university. It was very fun we got to choose our own lectures , the trip was as much as fun as our last trip . We also at the beginning played a game , we had to pick a card the card had photos of people and we had to match the photo of what job they did in university. Unfortually my team only got 3 points it was very fun though. We had our first lecture then after lunch we had our second lecture. I really enjoyed our trip.

Invitation to attend lectures : 2016-02-25

Once we finished our walk we done a few games. We had to make a university, played university of life, see if there’s a University in certain places. After this it was about time to goand that’s when we left

Our trip to Reading University : 2016-01-13

First we went to the University by an amazing bus just for people who travel to university. It had special seats and free wifi. When we got there we put our coats and bags away and started on the first activity which was to put names of places into a labelled hoop which was to show if there was a university located in that area. Next we had to draw a student that went to university. I learnt that anyone aged 18 and over could be a student at university. Next we had to build a campus made out of Lego bricks on A3 paper and make building that we thought were in the university. After that we had a Walk round the university and saw what was really inside the university.Me and my group even went in somebody’s apartment as they kindly let us in. We learnt that students from the university played 52 different sports and quidich which was a new sport to me. While we were on our walk we took some photos and brang them back to share with the rest of our classmates. Then we ate our lunch and played a game which was like snakes and ladders but you had to start on a square that said first day and the first person to reach graduation was the winner(I was the worst at that game). Finally we all spoke at the front and told everyone what we saw on campus but didn’t think that a university would have like a hairdressers. Then it was time to go. It was amazing trip that I will never forget!

My day at Reading University : 2016-01-13

On the 4th of December I went to Reading University. You may have guessed that from the title of this blog. But it wasn’t any old visit. It was a super fun one! When we got there we went into this theatre hall and were seated at tables. We each had a monster as a sort of mascot. My table’s mascot was a purple and orange monster called Nowely. First, we completed sheets about University- for example,10 things you do at University. Mine were:

  •  Study
  • Sleep
  • Shop
  • Visit the library/read.
  • Attend lectures
  • Eat
  • Go to societies
  • Watch TV
  • Write letters
  • Go to a café

After that we were shown a PowerPoint about University.  Next, we created our own Universities and grounds. Then we went for a walk around the campus[that’s the  place where the university is]. We took pictures of the places we saw that interested us with a camera that printed them immediately.  When got back we had lunch.

The first thing we did after lunch was play a board game about university. We rolled the dice and the first person to get to graduation[graduation is when someone gets a degree] won[graduation was the last square]. If you answered a question about university then you got to move on one square. I won!   In our next activity, we created our own students, then heard some real students talk about university. Then some different students talked about how far they’d come to study . Finally we had photo with our mascots before we left.

It was a brilliant day!

A recount of a great day : 2016-01-12

On the 4th of December 2015 the year 6 class from Oxford Road Community School went by bus to the University. We were going to look around the University and hopefully learn some new and interesting facts while we were there. We were all really exited!

So at about 9:00 ( AM not PM) we set of for the bus stop we wanted to catch in town.  The bus was AMAZING. It had games and everything. But enough about the transport. When  we got to the University the leaders were all waiting for us. They took us to the right building which that day would take  part in. When we were all inside we got in to our groups – I was with Dr. Cooper. Then  we  all filled in some  sheets about our guesses at what University life was like and some of the roles you could play  at University.

Next the leaders  introduced themselves and showed us a small PowerPoint about University.  After that  in our groups we went on a walk around the university.  We took Dr.Cooper with us, we also had a camera and took lot of great photos.   One of my favourite places on the university was library , it was big. We were all starting to get very hungry so we headed back  to our room for lunch.  Everyone chatted about what they had seen over lunch.  Then we played a board game university style I was the first graduate!  Each group was given a set of building blocks to make there own campus with – ours even had a party room.  It was nearly time to go home but there was still time for a picture with everyone, including the monsters.

Our trip to University of Monsters : 2016-01-12

It was the day and we were about to travel to the bus we had all been told to be on our best behavior  . Just before we had a checklist so we knew that everyone had the correct things . After that we walked ( at a fast pace ) to the Universitys own bus when we got on we saw a games area , the study , and music .It took us around 30 minutes to get there . When we arrived the university of monsters people were waiting there at the bus stop for us .Next we walked into a hall and put our bags at the end of the hall and we were explained what would happen ( not the timetable though because we had one on our table ). The first activity that we did was to create a person who could go to University ( although anyone could ) such as what age they are and where they come from they may well come from somewhere abroad .We were all given snacks that were left o our table to eat while we built a campus on an A3 piece of paper . We used plastic bricks to make buildings we labeled them with a felt tip pen . After that we had a walk around the campus seeing all the different sites on it , we  also were told that they played Quidich and 52 other sports . The walk was about 30 minutes long when we got back to I realised we were one of the first in the colousul hall then finally we ate our lunch . We didn’t go out anymore that afternoon .We played a game it was a bit like snakes and ladders because you started at first day and had to get to graduation with dice . Finally we went to the front all of the monster groups came up and said what they wanted in there campus ( most of us said a prison ) and then we got our stuff and went back to school on a bus .

My letter. : 2016-01-09

Dear Professor Tassell,

I’m writing to you to tell you my new idea for building a football court on the campus. This would be good because when the students have spare time they can show off their skills to their friends. This isn’t the only reason why it should be built. Many people say that the university could be better if this happened because they often get bored, and football is a fun thing they can do to cure this. It can also keep people fit. This can happen because if some people want to get fitter they can play football. Although not only people who want to get fit can play it but anyone that wants to keep fit can play it. The good thing is that boys and girls can play not only boys. Even if the girls are not that good the boys can teach them to get better.

Thank you for reading this.

Abbie

Recount of our first trip to the University : 2016-01-08

When we got to school we had to do the normal things(register) whilst everybody else got ready. When we had all done we walked into town to get on the bus (21 Claret The Sizzler) it was amazing. Me, Isabelle, Gabriela and Nabiya sat at the Lego table but it was hard to make things because the table kept wobbling we got around it in the end. But then we arrived at the University we saw James, Hannah and a few other people. They all walked us and our teachers to a big building. This building was big very big indeed, inside it they all introduced themselves and told us a bit about them. It was fun but next we had a few activities to do. The good thing was they were all fun things. All of them got our brains working this was a good thing we were all so sleepy. After this we had a Campus Tour. This was a tour around the Campus (University ground.) We saw all different places like houses, flats, offices, study halls, pubs, cafes and many more. We even got a special camera When you took a picture you had to shake it so the picture came out I had a lucky touch in our group (Bonney)nobody could make the picture come out but when I had a turn it came out. Soon the tour was over and we headed back to the really big building and done some more activities. Shortly after this we had our lunch this lasted about 35-40 minutes. Next we had a chance to talk to our friends and play some games but when all the university staff had come back we played a board game (best game EVER.) Sadly after this we had to go home we got the same but as we came on but this time I didn’t sit on the Lego table me and Gabriela sat opposite Mr Lyford. We were only on the but for about 20 minutes but when we got back to school we had to go strait home. BEST DAY EVER

University of monsters recount By Sara : 2016-01-08

I am going to tell you about my trip the university of monsters. First we went onto the bus. It was really cool! It had an iPad, and games! Then once we got there we walked to this building (which I don’t know the name of) and did some activities. We had to write 10 things in university and 10 jobs in university. We had to build a campus and name places with university’s in them. We also had a walk around the campus and visited many different areas of the campus! We visited a library (with a upside down Christmas tree), lots of shops and apartments. Can you believe there was even a hair dresser! We had lunch and played a university board game! It was very fun!

Back to University : 2016-01-08

Hi Everyone!

I am currently packing all my clothes and belongings up ready to head back to Reading because our term starts on Monday. We usually get a little bit more time off at Christmas and Easter than you do because it gives us time to go home and see our families as most of us don’t live in Reading. Also a lot of students have part-time jobs, so they go home and go to work!

How was your Christmas? Did everyone have a nice time?

I’m sorry for not posting sooner, it has been a very busy Christmas for me and my family! Anyway, I must continue my packing! I shall try to post a photo for you! When we go back to Uni we are all going to start planning for when you next come to visit! I’m very excited!

Love Bonney

Exited to visit again : 2016-01-07

I am very exited to come to the university again . I really enjoyed the first trip I can’t wait to see what’s happening next time. I hope their Is more fun things to do.

I need your help! : 2015-12-20

Cooper

Hello Year 6, Dr Cooper here.

I need your help! The monsters have forgotten everything they learnt on their visit with you on the 4th December. It was a fun day but the monsters can’t remember anything about University or students.

Your workbooks should now be back with you and in those books are some new sheets. Over Christmas I need you to help me teach the monsters by answering the questions so I can tell the monsters the answers when they come back from University.

There are also some new monster missions set by me and it is up to you how many you would like to do or which ones you choose. You can complete your missions in the workbook, separate pieces of paper or on this blog. I can’t wait to see your missions.

Have a good Christmas.

From Dr. Cooper

It’s Christmas!! : 2015-12-11

The term is over at the University of Monsters. Shortly your books will be back with you and Dr. Cooper will need your help! For now the monsters have finished their lectures and are heading home for a 4 week holiday. Keep an eye out on the blog to see what some of the monsters do with their Christmas holidays.

Merry Christmas from all the monsters!

More animals at University : 2015-12-08

Hello!

More animals were at the university today! This time they weren’t as cute or cuddly as the guide dogs… instead there were lots of reptiles and creepy-crawlies! There were snakes, lizards, turtles, cockroaches, mealworms and many more!

There were lots of challenges to do, which ranged from holding the animals, to collecting stars from a bucket filled with live mealworms, and even the option to eat some bugs! I was feeling very brave so decided to try a little bit of the “food”… I’m not sure I’ll ever enjoy eating dried mealworms or fudge with worms in but at least I can say I gave it a go!

I really enjoyed holding the animals. My favourites were the two turtles, they were really speedy but kept trying to go under the sofas! Everyone had a good time and lots of money was raised for charity too.

Bailey.

University of monsters : 2015-12-06

Our trip to the was amazing. Even the bus ride was, there was tables that had built in tablets and there was board games like connect four. When we got there we sat on tables next to our monster groups  (I was with Bailey). Then they gave us a map and we had to mark out the country’s which we think had university’s. After that we made our own university with bricks. Our group made a jail next to the party room, just in case they had a bit too many. We had a tour of only a tiny bit of the university and it was massive, we saw these people who was doing a project where they had glasses which made them blind. They were seeing what a normal day would be for blind people. Then we went back to the hall and had lunch. We all finished lunch and we started to draw a new student our one was called Linda. Oli (the university president) wasn’t the president anymore Linda was because she gave presents on Christmas. The time was two o’clock so we had to pack away and go home.

We can’t wait to see you all next time

First visit to University of Monsters : 2015-12-04

So …. how was it?

What did you do? What did you learn? Mr L has been tweeting all afternoon, it looks brilliant but I want to know what you thought.

How about writing a recount post for this blog that I can share with loads of other bloggers!

Diary entry by Persheh’s monster : 2015-12-03

Dear diary,

OMG! Today I am super excited diary! I am going to leave for university with my sis Maddie. My mum Mallesa was literally crying. Which made Maddie cry. I didn’t cry though I was super sad. My sis Twinkle started to follow us. She won’t let me go!When we finally made it to the bus, Twinkle started to rain with tears. Why!? I have not the slightest idea.

I’m here. My heart feels like it is going to blow!! I can see monsters all shape and sizes coming. Maddie looks like she is going to blow. She is acting like a 2 year old even though she is older than me! In my first lesson I met doctor Cooper. He made me feel welcome. I also sat next to Nowely. He is cool! I really like university. Bye!!

From Mackenzie Angel Zigler!
